The fraternity of shame

If you’ve got yourself a decent Randy Wang jones and you’re spiraling into a major depression because today’s Pretty Good Podcast is a best-of, you must listen to the 8:00 hour of Friday’s Tim Conway, Jr. show.

Randy Wang (pallet jack operator at Magic Mountain board op on the Tim Conway, Jr. show) buzzed on down to that Welfare office and got himself an EBT card. And Tim and Aron Bender have a few things to say about it.

If you’re one of those people who thinks that Tim is boring on KFI, you’ll want to listen to this hour. It’s FULL of classic Conway Vernacular.

“These poor kids have moms and dads who are busted out and they gotta sit there and watch Shrek ONE?”

My name is Jennifer and I’m a new age spiritual conspiracy theorist?

I’m not exactly sure who this post will be interesting to to whom this post will be interesting who this post will be interesting to (the whom one sounds kinda douchy), but…it’s about talk radio and it’s what I’ve been most excited about listening to lately so…yeah.

Of course you guys know that I read historical fiction almost exclusively. And, like in all genres, some authors are better than others. Some disregard facts in order to move along the plot, some capitalize on myths and untruths to write a juicy story, and some just completely construct a story out of whole cloth about people in history. All of these methods have some merit. You just have to remember that what you are reading is not, in fact, the truth and is, in fact, fiction.

There also exists another type of historical fiction. This is the most special type. The type where the author believes so passionately in her interpretation of history that you desperately want to believe it. It’s just that beautiful.

My favorite (and really the only) author of this type is Kathleen McGowan. Here’s where things get weird. And amazing.

Kathleen McGowan is my favorite author.

Kathleen McGowan has an Internet radio show.

Kathleen McGowan’s radio show is totally awesome.

Kathleen McGowan’s next book will be about one of my favorite women in history.

I’m in nerd heaven.

Hugs not drugs

I have a very exciting night of roasted artichoke hearts and So You Think You Can Dance ahead of me, but I didn’t want to forget to tell you this.

Wayne Resnick is a Guitar God and a Great Talk Show Host.

And he’s on show #15 of the Brian Whitman podcast. And if you click that link you can see a picture of two major studs in Randy Wang’s bed. Hey – I don’t know what you’re into…

Seriously, it was a fantastic show and I <3 <3 <3 Wayne Resnick.

Oh, and if you’ve got a real KFI jones, also check out show #14 with Bill Handel and the morning crew. I know what you’re saying – “I hate Bill Handel and his liberal pro-Israel rants.” I get it. I’m pretty sick of him myself. But luckily for everyone, Bill gets all ADD in the middle of this interview and splits.

It was awesome.

And Brian David Whitman – you’re the effing best, maaan. I said it.

Just like glitter mixed with rock and roll

The following IM exchange takes place at least 50 times a week between me and one of my best friends.

Me: thanks, you’re a huge stud

BF: eh, i’m ok

But the other day, it went like this…

BF: i’m a huge stud

Me: glad you’re finally catching on

BF: but you should have said – you’re ok

Me: actually, i think it’s – eh, you’re ok

BF: glad you’re finally catching on

Me: i think in the first email i ever sent you i wrote – thanks, you’re the best (because i didn’t think you were familiar with the whole Tim Conway, Jr. ‘huge stud’ thing)

Me: and you wrote back – eh, i’m ok

BF: the more things change, the more they stay the same

OK, that’s probably a long and boring way to this glamophonic place.

The return of the Adam Carolla Show.

Not the podcast. The real radio show. Minus Danny Bonaduce, Jack Silver, and – oh yeah – a radio frequency. Just the main crew - Bald Bryan, Teresa Strasser, Dawson, Angie, et al. – and the sound effects, the semi-successful attempts to read the news, the stories, the rants, the camaraderie, the non-overwhelming, non-ubiquitous use of guests, and Adam.

So,  yeah, everything that was good about the Adam Carolla Show and nothing that was bad.

Good > Bad.
